Part 2 as a Speed Round
At CLB 11–12, Part 2 is your fastest guaranteed perfect. The diagram data is factual and verifiable — there's no ambiguity in the answers. Your actual goal here is to score 8/8 in the minimum time possible so you can invest the savings where they matter most (Parts 3 and 4).
Target: 6–7 minutes total, banking 2–3 minutes.
The One-Pass Method
At mastery level, you don't need separate passes for diagram and text:
1. Scan the diagram for structure (30 seconds) — note the type, categories, and any footnotes 2. Read the email knowing the diagram context (60 seconds) — you'll naturally connect email details to diagram data 3. Answer questions sequentially (4–5 minutes) — each answer should be immediately locatable
If any question takes more than 45 seconds, flag it and move on. Come back with fresh eyes after finishing the others.
Pattern Recognition
After extensive practice, you'll recognize that Part 2 questions follow predictable patterns:
- Direct lookup: "What time does X open?" → straight from diagram - Conditional lookup: "Given the email's situation, which option applies?" → diagram filtered by email conditions - Comparison: "Which is cheaper/faster/closer?" → compare multiple diagram entries - Cloze summary: Fill in facts from the diagram into an email template
Recognizing the pattern instantly tells you where to look, eliminating search time.
Banking Time
Optimal CLB 11–12 time distribution across all parts:
- Part 1: 8 min (saving 3 min from allotted 11) - Part 2: 7 min (saving 2 min from allotted 9) - Part 3: 12 min (using 2 min saved) - Part 4: 16 min (using 3 min saved)
By speeding through Parts 1–2, you give yourself 5 extra minutes for the hard parts. This time redistribution is what makes CLB 11–12 achievable — it lets you apply careful verification where it's actually needed.
