Part 4 at CLB 10
At CLB 10, you should fill all 5 blanks during the audio โ the review time becomes a bonus verification period, not a working period. This real-time completion is possible because your listening and reading work in parallel effortlessly.
Synchronized Processing
The technique:
1. Pre-scan all blanks and options before audio (15 seconds) 2. As audio begins, read the summary paragraph in sync with the audio pace 3. When the audio reaches each blank, the answer should be immediately clear from what you just heard 4. Select the option without hesitation and continue tracking the audio
If any blank isn't immediately clear, mark your best guess and move on. You can revisit during review time.
Practice drill: Do Part 4 practice tests and time how many blanks you fill DURING the audio vs AFTER. Target: 5/5 during.
The Grammar Safety Net
Even at CLB 10, occasionally a blank may be uncertain. Use grammar as your tiebreaker:
- Subject-verb agreement: If the subject is singular, eliminate plural verb forms - Tense consistency: Match the tense of surrounding sentences - Collocations: "make a contribution" not "do a contribution" - Article usage: "a" before consonant sounds, "an" before vowel sounds
These grammar checks take 5 seconds and break 50/50 ties reliably.
