Last updated: April 2026

What CLB 5 Means

  • Understands clear, familiar conversations and instructions
  • Can write simple emails and short responses
  • Needs support with advanced vocabulary and abstract topics
  • Communication is possible, but speed and nuance are limited

Immigration Impact

CLB 5 may qualify for select Canadian Experience Class cases (TEER 2/3 roles), but it is usually not competitive for broad Express Entry draws. For stronger eligibility and CRS outcomes, target CLB 7+.

Roadmap: CLB 5 → CLB 7

  1. Practice 2 full tests per week in your weakest module
  2. Prioritize listening speed and reading accuracy drills
  3. Use writing/speaking templates for structure
  4. Track recurring errors and fix one pattern at a time
