CLB 9: Perfect Part 3
At CLB 9, Part 3 should be 6 out of 6. This part is information-dense but not conceptually hard โ every answer is a factual detail from the conversation. With the right system, it's one of the easiest parts to perfect.
The Complete Preview
At CLB 9 reading speed, you can preview all 6 questions + scan the options before audio starts:
1. Read all 6 question stems 2. For each, note the detail type: price? time? location? reason? requirement? 3. Mentally organize: "Q1=price, Q2=time, Q3=location, Q4=requirement, Q5=comparison, Q6=reason"
This 15-second investment means you know exactly what 6 facts to extract from a conversation that contains 20+ facts. You ignore the noise and catch only what matters.
Precision Notes
Upgrade from "smart notes" to "precision notes":
- Include conditions: Not just "$30" but "$30/memb, $45/nonmemb" - Include corrections: Cross out wrong info and write the corrected version - Include qualifiers: Not just "Tuesday" but "starts next Tues" or "every Tues"
The CLB 9 standard: After the audio, your notes should directly answer each question without any guessing or "I think it was..."
If you find yourself unsure about an answer, your notes weren't precise enough โ that's the habit to fix in practice.
Speed Answering
At CLB 9, each Part 3 question should take 15โ20 seconds:
1. Read question โ check your notes โ answer โ next 2. Notes should have the answer written down already 3. If your notes show the answer clearly, don't second-guess
Bank the saved time mentally โ finishing Part 3 quickly reduces overall exam fatigue. Parts 4โ6 still require peak concentration.
