How does my CELPIP score affect my CRS points?

Updated: 2026-04-04

The direct relationship

Your CELPIP score maps to a CLB level for each of the four skills (Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking). Each CLB level earns a specific number of CRS language points. The total for all four skills is your language points subtotal.

Points per CLB level (all four skills combined)

CLB 4 = 0 pts | CLB 5 = 24 pts | CLB 6 = 36 pts | CLB 7 = 68 pts | CLB 8 = 92 pts | CLB 9 = 124 pts | CLB 10+ = 136 pts. The two biggest jumps are CLB 6→7 (+32 pts) and CLB 8→9 (+32 pts).

Beyond direct points: transferability

CLB 7 or higher also unlocks transferability bonuses — extra CRS points for the combination of language + education or language + foreign work experience. Reaching CLB 9 doubles these bonuses. So the CRS value of improving your CELPIP is often much larger than the language column alone.
