Direct education points
A one-year or more Master's degree earns 135 CRS education points. A Bachelor's (3+ year degree) earns 120. The direct difference is +15 points for a Master's. A PhD earns 150 points (+30 over Bachelor’s). Two or more credentials (at least one 3+ years) earns 128 points.
Transferability bonus on top
If you have a Master's AND your CELPIP is CLB 7–8, you earn +25 transferability points (vs +13 for a Bachelor's). If your CELPIP is CLB 9+, that doubles to +50 (vs +25 for a Bachelor's). The total CRS impact of a Master's degree therefore ranges from +27 to +40 points compared to a Bachelor's, depending on your language level.
ECA requirement
Foreign Master's degrees must be assessed by a designated organization (ECA) before IRCC accepts them. The ECA process takes 1–3 months. Apply early - without an ECA, your points are capped at secondary school level (30 points).
