Chain Predictions
At CLB 8, link predictions in a cause-and-effect chain:
"Because the sky is getting darker, the market vendors will likely begin covering their stalls. As a result, customers will probably start leaving, which will in turn reduce the crowd. Eventually, the market will quiet down, and only a few dedicated shoppers will remain."
This chain (event โ result โ further result โ final state) demonstrates logical thinking and fills time with connected, meaningful content.
Types of Predictions
Expand beyond the obvious:
- Physical outcomes: "The plates on the edge of the table will likely fall" - Emotional reactions: "The woman will probably feel disappointed when she discovers..." - Social outcomes: "This will likely create a sense of urgency among the group" - Time-based outcomes: "Within the next few minutes, I expect..."
Covering different TYPES of predictions shows sophisticated thinking.
Conditional Language
Use conditionals to show nuance:
- "If the rain continues, then the event will probably be moved indoors." - "Should the manager arrive, it's likely that the situation will be resolved." - "Unless someone steps in to help, I predict the problem will only get worse." - "Provided that the weather holds, the picnic will be a great success."
Conditionals show CLB 8 grammar mastery while making predictions more sophisticated.
