CLB 9 Storytelling
At CLB 9, your 60-second story is captivating. The evaluator leans in. This requires narrative skill: pacing, detail selection, and a satisfying conclusion.
Pacing Mastery
Control the pace of your story:
- Slow down for important moments: "And then... I opened the door... and couldn't believe what I saw." - Speed up for background: "We quickly packed our bags, grabbed the tickets, and headed to the airport." - Pause before reveals: "What I didn't know at the time was... [pause] ...that this trip would change my life."
Variable pacing creates drama. Monotone delivery at constant speed is the #1 CLB 8 trap.
The Reflective Close
End with genuine reflection:
- "That experience taught me that sometimes the best things in life come when you least expect them." - "Since that day, I've approached challenges with a completely different mindset." - "It was in that moment that I truly understood the value of stepping outside my comfort zone."
A reflective closing shows depth of thought โ a CLB 9 marker that separates you from CLB 8 storytellers who simply end with "It was a great experience."
