Practical targets
Task 1 performs best around 150-200 words. Task 2 performs best around 220-320 words. Too short risks incomplete development; too long risks timing and grammar errors.
Why this range works
These ranges allow clear structure, two developed points, and a review pass. Overwriting often reduces score because candidates sacrifice clarity and error control.
Timing split
Use about 8-10 minutes for Task 1 and 18-22 minutes for Task 2, keeping 2-3 minutes for proofreading.
